Creation Care

The mission of Creation Care is our lead our congregation in better stewardship of God’s creation by teaching what the Bible says about caring for the environment. The congregation is further encouraged to take an active part in conservation and restoration of the creation God entrusted to our care.

The task force is driving a course of action to raise awareness of issues concerning our environment. Their activities include: classes, including "The Bible and the Environment," a devotional on stewardship of creation, a brochure "How You Can Help Care for God’s Creation," and direct activities like beach cleanup events.

E-Waste Day:

It was a day that blew us away. Over a thousand of our neighbors drove through SBPC’s big parking lot. With smiles and thank yous, as they dropped off dead computers, X-boxes, printers, cell phones & TV’s were dropped off, turntables - you name it. Over 20 tons of electronic waste will not be go into land-fills where the toxic metals contaminate the soil and ground water. As exhausted volunteers we honored God by following His Creation Care Mandate (Genesis 2:15), and we gave a witness to our community that we care because God cares!

There’s so much more that we can and MUST do to live out God’s Kingdom concern for His planet. We must not only save souls, we must also save the environment which these souls depend on for life and breath. Jesus brings good news of healing (the root meaning of the Bible word “salvation”) for all peoples and for all creation. The church must be in the forefront of God’s redemption of peoples and planet.

You can help SPBC’s Creation Care Team continue. We are praying for people who can dream and make dreams come true. We need leaders and followers. We intend to hold another E-Waste day in April. Other possibilities include days for beach clean up, tree planting and public education about plastic water bottles and grocery bags, home energy audits. We are limited only by our imagination and commitment. Help us make SBPC a leading light in our community for Creation Care. Let’s go GREEN!

Stepping forward:

· Volunteer to organize and implement the next e-waste day

· Lead or co-lead our revived Creation Care Team

· Help organize a Creation Care project, like tree planting
