THE SBPC CAMPUS MASTER PLAN FAQ TO THE CONGREGATION December 4, 2009
Q? Why are we doing the Campus Master Plan?
A: We believe a redesigned campus will facilitate transformed lives by (1) moving our children and students into age appropriate, larger facilities that allow for growth and hospitality to families, (2) connecting all generations on the “upper campus” with an expanded patio, (3) creating visitor and senior friendly parking around our campus, (4) providing more space for recreation, community events and ministries, (5) remodeling the “back end” of the Sanctuary with an inviting face to the community, a chapel and much needed rehearsal and storage space, (5) a more open feel to the shopping center and Lomas Santa Fe, and (6) expanded facilities in the current Ministry Center for Hispanic Ministries.
Q? What is Phase I in the revised Campus Master Plan and why build now?
A: Phase I addresses the priority goal of reaching children, students and families by creating a 4400 sq ft Infant and Toddler Center to be located to the north of the current Preschool and to the east of the Sanctuary, a new Ministry Center to be located to the north of Debin Hall and west of the Sanctuary that will initially serve as home to Children’s Ministries and the Preschool. The current space for Children’s and Preschool are outdated, not to code and is limiting current ministries. In addition, Phase I also calls for a loop road and parking to the north of the Sanctuary, the demolition of the current Discipleship Center and a new Worship Center Expansion to the north end of the Sanctuary.
Q? What will the new Ministry Center be used for?
A: The new Ministry Center (approx. 12,819 sq ft) is three stories and will be used as transitional space for Children’s Ministries and the Preschool until future phases can be completed. There is a total increase of 7,329 SF devoted to infants, toddlers and children younger than seventh grade.
Q? When do we start actual construction on Phase I of the Campus Master Plan?
A: We begin immediately the long process of getting approvals. This could take 18 months, 24 months or longer. Currently the cost of construction is lower than previous years.
Q: Who benefits the most from Phase I of the Campus Master Plan?
A: Our children! Infants and toddlers get a new, code compliant and safe facility. Pre-school and elementary school children get a new and much improved facility. All children from sixth grade down move from the oldest facilities on our campus to the newest facilities on our campus. The Worship Center Expansion behind the Sanctuary, including a new Chapel, will provide space for small weddings and memorials, rehearsal and storage space for Worship and Music.
Q: How much will Phase I cost?
A: We estimate Phase I will cost $10 to 12 million. We are working with an outside fundraising consultant to help facilitate a faith-filled and successful building campaign.
Q: Can our Campus Master Plan campaign address our compelling need to be “outwardly focused” and missional while building our “inwardly strong” infrastructure?
A: We intend to continue our missional focus of being “a gathering of believers sent into the world to demonstrate the kingdom of God.” Come Build Hope, Community Serve Day, Kids Games and many other outreach ministries and will continue to thrive and hopefully grow with our new facilities. We will continue to encourage people to live missionally as small groups and as individuals. We believe our new campus will facilitate building transformative bridges from and into our community.
Q? What changes are there from the revised Campus Master Plan?
A: The revised CMP eliminates the underground parking garage, increases the size of the Infant and Toddler Center and makes minor modifications to the parking along the loop road behind the sanctuary.
