Campus Plan Letter
|
Dear SBPC Family, On November 10th the Session (elders and pastors) approved moving forward with Phase 1 of our Campus Master Plan. Specifically, we approved (1) the revised Campus Master Plan, (2) building Phase 1 and (3) hiring a campaign consultant. On our website we have posted FAQ’s and drawings plans that explain the phasing, campaign and vision. This is a major step toward a campus that will facilitate transforming lives from generation to generation and demonstrating the Kingdom of God in the world. I’m writing to let you know our path forward and the process for that decision.
Our Path Forward To develop a building team and a campaign team, begin the refinement of the Plan and then the lengthy application, review, and approval process (this could take a year, eighteen months, or more) through the City of Solana Beach and present an update to the congregation at the Winter Congregational Gathering on Tuesday, January 19, 2010.
Our Process After the Campus Master Planning Team received feedback from the Congregation in January, the Session approved the plan in May 2009. In August the Session chartered a Campus Implementation Team (CIT), which was presented at the Congregational Gathering in October: Dave Cours (chair), John Steel, Brenda Thompson, Jose Ramirez, and Rodney Jackson and myself as ex officio, Lew Dominy (architect), and Steve Horine and Kathryn Conniff (project manager). The team met weekly to discover permitting, understand our phasing and funding, and presented their report to the Session in October. The Session considered the Plan revisions, using a capital campaign consultant, the cost of waiting to build, the timing of moving forward, phasing, and alignment with our church priorities and vision. We prayed for wisdom and discernment as a Session, realizing this decision would transform our campus and transform lives for generations to come. The Beginning of the Process For years the Session has been aware of the need to rebuild our campus. Most recently we received input since the Mosaic Project from the congregation, community leaders, ministry teams and focus groups, the CMP Team, past and the current Session. Thank you all for your patience, faith and discernment! We have taken a huge step of faith into the future we believe God has for us. Our campus will be transformed, our bridges to the community will be transformed and most importantly, we will be transformed on this journey as we seek God and trust God together. Would you pray with me?
Father God, your word promises us that if we seek you with our whole heart we will be found by you, and that you will give wisdom to those who ask for it. Thank you for leaders in our church who have diligently and prayerfully discerned your leading and our vision for being transformed and for demonstrating the kingdom of God in the world. Give us wisdom as we move forward into a future that only you know. May you always receive all glory, honor and praise. In Jesus’ name. Amen. In Christ, Mike McClenahan
